Women in Food, Drink and Hospitality

In addition to funding the bursary, the London Chapter tries to support other charities and philanthropic organisations which also encourage the empowerment of women through food.

In this category, we often support the social enterprise Luminary Bakery.  Luminary was established as a proactive way to support women who have experienced extreme disadvantage, trauma and gender-based violence to find a way out of their circumstances by learning to bake. Luminary uses baking as a tool to empower women into employment and independence and to pursue a new future for themselves.  They currently train 6 cohorts of 7 women a year in baking, self development and workplace skills, alongside a further year of support, mentorship and work opportunities.  On graduating they are assisted in finding work within the industry or their chosen career.

Our International Women’s Day events of the past several years are fundraisers for a selected beneficiary.  We have donated funds from this event to the following:

2020

  • The Felix Project
  • Refettorio Felix

2019

  • The Food Chain
  • The School of Artisan Food Foundation

2018

  • Breast Cancer Care

2017

  • Luminary Bakery
