Dame Jen Greenhalgh worked her taco magic and hosted a Taco Tuesday fund-raiser for us on US election night – or Bonfire Night – take your pick. Just as with the Gunpowder Plot traitors, many were hoping for a different outcome the following day.
Celebrating Strong Women
We celebrated some amazing US women and tucked into Jen’s bespoke tacos, designed just for this evening. Jen paid tribute to the icons that are Dolly Parton, Julia Child, Kamala Harris, Maya Angelou and, of course, LDEI founder Carol Brock.
The Tacos
Here’s what we ate: the Dolly, a potato salad based delight, the Julia – that enveloped a rich and mouthwatering ratatouille. For the Kamala, Jen rustled up a “cheeseburger” (it’s all vegetarian or vegan at the Bonnington) and the Maya featured luscious roasted sweet potatoes with a very moreish corn salsa. To celebrate our founder, the Carol was a very popular maple miso caramel banana pudding. Jen made an abundance of that and it disappeared in a flash!
The evening was a sellout, with London Chapter Dames, their friends, families and some of Jen’s regulars at the Bonnington Centre – we’re not surprised they keep asking her back! In fact, these Taco Tuesdays are so popular, we managed to squeeze in a few walk-ins too.
The Raffle
The wine was flowing and so was the generosity of our guests, who were interested to know more about what LDE is all about and were delighted to support us in our endeavours to offer support to our communities through grants, scholarships and mentorship.
The fund-raising raffle was a hit – we are so grateful to those of you who donated prizes (and don’t worry if you couldn’t make it, we still have some fabulous donations for future events).
We raised a over £300 – this will go into our fund-raising coffers, to be put to good use to further our philanthropic aims.
