by Dame Jen Greehalgh
I’ve read a few articles on Substack over the last couple of years and recently begun following our own Dames Elisabeth Luard and Helen Collier on the platform. Elizabeth’s drawings are worth the effort alone.
Recently a few people have suggested I should write a Substack newsletter myself, and I’ve finally decided I need to dip my toe into the water and find out what it’s all about.
To begin with I took the lazy route and asked Chat GPT to succinctly tell me exactly what Substack is and why as a small business owning chef I should use it. Here is what it told me:
“Substack is a platform that allows writers to create and distribute email newsletters, monetizing content through subscriptions. It’s ideal for independent creators who want to build an audience, control their content, and earn income directly from subscribers.
As of 2023, Substack has reported more than **20 million active subscribers**,
with over **2 million** being paid subscribers.”
Sound interesting to you and want to join me in my New Year’s Resolution to dig deeper? Well let’s find out more from our own Dame experts!
Elizabeth and Helen have both very kindly offered to lead us through an in “Introduction to Substack” in a relaxed online session.
They’ll tell us why they like it, how they use it and generally open their amazing minds for us.
